In preparation for my wild boar hunt, I decided to equip my old go-to Izh-58 with a red-glow sight. This allowed me to get an empirical answer to one of the most frequently asked questions about Russian hunting shotguns: is the front sight screwed in?
And the answer is… … it is, on all IzhMech guns. The thread size is standard metric M3 (3 mm). In some guns it could be stuck real tight, but in my case it came off with a slight twist of the pliers. The original brass sight is rather soft, so if you want to keep it intact, it’s better to grab it through a rubber spacer.
