Have a question about a hunting shotgun made in USSR/Russia?

Model identification, when it was made, how to date it, proof marks, export can I shoot steel through it, what loads to fire in is, choke dimensions, engraving, the meaning of inscriptions and markings, what gun is better, opinions and comparisons, ejectors and extractors, disassembly, fixing and gunsmithing tips, wood and finish, value, price, Tula, TOZ, Baikal, Vostok, Izhevsk, Zlatoust, Vyatskie Polyany, TsKIB (CKIB), Bekas, Saiga, Vepr, MP, MTs (MC), side-by-sides, over/unders, semiautos, single shots, what is the best and worst Russian gun ever – and anything else you’ve been wondering about.

    Hello Aleksei,

I’m very impressed with your site and the information on your grandfathers IZH-54. I too was given an IZH-54 from my grandfather.

Could you please help me identify the year of it, and any additional information you might know?

The serial number on the lump says: Д Т 1001

Behind the trigger guard it says: T1001

Hello, saw some brilliant info here, hope that you are able to help me too with my recently purchased ТОЗ-63.
Markings on the underside of the barrel:
    Left barrel:
    -Р in a square
    -П ЧОК
    – Г in a circle
    – К in a circle
    – 700ATM
    -У in a circle
    -.562″

    Right barrel:
    -K in a circle
    -Щ in a circle
    -Г in a triangle
    -ЧОК
    -16×70
    -БЧМ

    On the hinging part:
    -П in a circle
    -T in a circle
    -ГИС
    -В in a triangle
    -Г in a circle
    -K in a circle

Its the most heavy stamped barrel that I’ve seen.
Could you please help me find out what they mean?
Also, would I be able to shoot steel shot or other alternatives to lead through this lovely 16 gauge?

Thank you very much for your time!

    Hello,
    I have recently aquired a 1966 IZH-12
    A 5012
What size cartridge does this shotgun take? 70mm or 76mm. I can not seem to find any markings for this. It looks like it meadures for a 76mm shell, but I am sceptical because of the age. Is it possible to shoot steel shot through it. It seems to be made rather robustly, but i do not want to risk anything.

Hello, I have a Baikal O/U Double Trigger IJ-27E, 28 inch barrels. According to the gun Smith, both barrels are full choke. All 3 numbers match C09005. I have the shield with the arrow. One spot has 12 over top of 70. Mine says made in USSR. I was wondering if that meant my O/U was made in December 1970?
